- As Canada prepares to allow fully vaccinated Americans to enter Canada starting August 9, a union representing about 9,000 Canadian Border Service Agency workers says its members will begin job action across the country on Friday. The Public Service Alliance of Canada and its Customs and Immigration Union says it served strike notice to the government on Tuesday and is now warning the public to expect long lineups and lengthy delays at border crossings and airports.
- Multiple COVID-19 subsidies have been extended by 30 days due to the ongoing spread of the Delta variant. The wage subsidy, rent subsidy, and Lockdown Support have been extended through October 23, and rent subsidy rates have been increased between August 29 and September 25. Federal officials cited the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the Delta variant and the challenges of coping with the third wave during the announcement and stated this extension is intended to ensure a strong recovery. For more details on the extension and changes to the COVID support programs for businesses, click here.

Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses
As part of the Hardest Hit Coalition, we need your support to advocate to government the urgent need for continued and tailored sector support programs. Please send your experience as a tourism operator, event space, attraction, or hotel - your struggles and your worries about the upcoming winter season. This will support the Coalition's media strategy in key ridings where seats are important to the election outcome. These stories will be used for pitching next week. Please provide your case studies/examples by Friday, August 6th at 11:00am, to Sabrina Tey, Manager, Communications at stey@destinationvancouver.com |

The hike to Garibaldi Lake is a Vancouver summer classic. The long, sunny days of August are a great time to tackle this moderately difficult trail. It starts with a long climb through the forest, but the sapphire blue lake and glacier views are worth the effort.
