DESTINATION VANCOUVER’S MANDATE

To support Vancouver's tourism industry in developing their experiences, and promoting Vancouver in target Canadian, US, and International markets.

We invite you to learn more about Destination Vancouver’s new expanded mandate:
https://www.destinationvancouver.com/about/brand/destination-vancouver/

  • This morning, Destination Vancouver's Vice President of Strategy and Business Development Karen Soyka joined tourism industry leaders to speak at the Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable press conference. The PCR test is a major barrier for international visitors who hope to travel to Vancouver and other parts of our province. The combination of testing availability and the high cost of a PCR test further complicates travel for all visitors to our destination. The rebuild of our industry will take time and the group called on the federal government to reduce the obstacles to travel so that our city’s tourism businesses can recover.

Engage with Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau

The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, the organization which brings holiday toys to thousands of underprivileged children in the region annually, is, for the second year, staging a Toy Drop/Drive-thru event at the PNE grounds on November 19th & 20th, 2021.

The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau works with 40 other bureaus and agencies, providing material support and shipping more than 145,000 items to them for their holiday programs, as well as acting as the Christmas bureau for Vancouver residents, where they assist an average of 1,000 families annually. The Bureau also distributes over $70,000-worth of supermarket gift cards to families.

By extending the event by one day this year, the Bureau hopes to encourage families to bring their school-aged children along on the Saturday to enjoy the gift of giving. It is hoped that many will make this a family day and go on to visit one of Vancouver’s great attractions after visiting the event. The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau organizers are asking attractions organizations across the region to consider supporting this initiative with a discount coupon or offer, good for the day of the drive thru, as an incentive to participating families. If interested, members are asked to connect directly with The Christmas Bureau's PR team.
