Celebrate LOCO BC’s 10th Year of BC Buy Local Week from November 29th to December 5th

From November 29th to December 5th, participate in LOCO BC’s 10th Year of BC Buy Local Week in celebration of the unique contributions local, independent businesses make to our communities!

Who is LOCO BC?

LOCO is a non-profit organization building stronger communities with applied research of the policies and practices of a fair and just economy. Our goal for this research is to help resilient communities recognize the shared economic prosperity that can be gained by supporting local businesses.

We produce research that demonstrates the beneficial practices and impacts of independent businesses, engage businesses to measure, further promote their impact, and educate consumers and purchasers to influence them to buy local products and services whenever possible. We also research the challenges faced by independent businesses, advocate for reducing these barriers, and work to build bridges between local businesses and policymakers.

What is #BCBuyLocal Week?

#BCBuyLocal is a week-long consumer campaign illuminating BC Local Owned businesses, BC Local Made and BC Local Grown products to the consumers who love them. The campaign aims to:
• Showcase B.C.-owned businesses and products to the market
• Engage businesses in identifying how they are local
• Create a platform to unify and support the Buy Local message across the province

The reach of the campaign owes its success to our growing number of community-based networks and partnerships. Our partners are essential in helping us spread the message of #BCBuyLocal throughout the province to businesses and their customers. We have more than 30 partners so far on BC Buy Local Week this year!

As part of this effort, we launched BC Buy Local Week in the province in 2012 and continue to share valuable consumer education throughout the first week of December each year. We also work with partners throughout the year to engage businesses, provide campaign materials, help businesses develop buy local marketing, and promote the benefits of independent businesses.

Why support #BCBuyLocal?

The Business Council of British Columbia anticipates COVID’s impact on business losses will materialize over a longer time than originally envisioned.

Not only does supporting and shopping local help keep your friends’ and neighbours’ businesses afloat, but you’re also more likely to find what you’re looking for as larger companies face supply chain disruptions.

The time is now to reinforce the importance of local businesses to consumers, media and elected officials ahead of the holiday shopping season.

If you own a business, we encourage you to align your business’s marketing with BC Buy Local Week by letting your consumers know all the ways you support local and give back!

As a consumer, we encourage you to support, promote and share your favourite businesses. Did you know…when you shop in-store at a local, independent business — $𝟲𝟯 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 $𝟭𝟬𝟬 is recirculated back into the local economy compared to only $𝟭𝟰 with multinationals.

For our 10th year of #BCBuyLocal Week we will be highlighting 7 ways for 7 days using the hashtag #BCBuyLocal on social media. Follow along on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn!
