North Vancouver’s craft beer scene is booming, with a dozen breweries calling the North Shore Home. This self-guided tour visits six of them on a 6.5 km-long route that is easy to walk or bike.

Biking Note: This route uses quiet streets and bike paths where possible, but it does involve a little bit of riding on busy streets. Walk your bike on the sidewalk if you aren’t comfortable. Use this link for turn-by-turn directions on Google maps.

1st Stop: Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers

Start your tour at Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers on Dollarton Highway near the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge.

Grab a seat in the barrel-lined taproom or outside on the patio, then order up one of their signature beers. The Apres Lager is designed for easy drinking after a day out on the trails. They also distill their own spirits including Parkhurst Premium Vodka and Deep Cove Canadian Rye Whiskey. With an extensive food menu and live music, you’re bound to stay awhile.

2nd Stop: Wildeye Brewing

To get to the second stop, head west on Dollarton Highway. There is a paved multi-use pathway for walkers and cyclists. As you approach the bridge, and Dollarton becomes Main Street, it becomes a painted bike lane and a separate pedestrian sidewalk. Cross Main Street at the light at Harbour Street. Wildeye Brewing is near the corner on the south side.

Wildeye Brewing has a big tasting room and a great bistro menu that includes snacks, pizza, and comfort food like grilled cheese sandwiches. Try their traditional German Lager or Czech Pilsner. Lovers of dark beer should sample the Czech Dark Lager or Salted Nanaimo Bar Stout.

3rd Stop: Bridge Brewing Company

Your next stop is a few blocks away. Cross Main Street and go north on Harbour Avenue for a few blocks, then turn right on Crown Street. Turn left a block later onto Mountain Highway, then make the next left onto Charlotte Road. The brewery is half a block down on your right.

One of the first craft breweries on the North Shore, Bridge Brewing Company has a small tasting room with 20 beers on tap. Try the Trip Plan IPA – proceeds from sales support North Shore Rescue’s Tim Jones Legacy Fund. They also have a food menu that features some innovative hot dogs.

4th Stop: House of Funk Brewing

To get to your next stop you’ll use a portion of North Vancouver’s Spirit Trail. Go north on Mountain Highway. At Keith Road, turn left onto the multi-use pathway and head across the bridge. At the intersection of Keith and Brooksbank, pick up the pathway on the southwest corner that leads to Heywood Street. Follow Heywood downhill. Just before it reaches Low Level Road, turn right onto the Spirit Trail. Stay on the Spirit Trail as it heads through some woods and uses a section of Alder Street. When the path emerges on Esplanade, look for House of Funk on your right.

House of Funk isn’t your typical brewery. They specialize in experimental brews that feature wild yeast, souring bacteria, and other micro-organisms. Beer isn’t the only thing they brew – they also have a boutique coffee roastery.

5th Stop: Beere Brewing Co.

The next stop is just a few doors down to the west along Esplanade.

Opening a brewery was almost a given for the Beere family. Established in 2017, Beere Brewing Co. is known for its IPAs – they have several on the menu. They also offer up unique brews like Carrot Cake Stout and Yuzu Pineapple Sake Sour. Relax on their south-facing patio – it gets lots of sunshine.

6th Stop: North Point Brewing Co.

Your final stop is just around the corner. Go west on Esplanade and turn right on St. Andrews Avenue. Go up the hill for one block, then turn left on 1st Street East. Look for North Point Brewing on your right half a block later.

The tasting room at North Point Brewing is inspired by a cozy cabin with wood-planked walls and a fireplace. Try their signature Life of Riley Hazy India Pale Ale or sample one of their rotating taps. They also offer pizza and snacks.
