Vancouver’s spring/summer campaign is now launched and is promoting Vancouver to BC, Alberta, and Ontario audiences, as well as to Washington State.
Members are invited to become familiar with the promotion and to also review the new campaign toolkit for more information on how to support and leverage the campaign. Please view the Member Toolkit.
Please share any new, updated and appropriately themed experience packages or special offers for this promotion by emailing our Marketing Agency once you have reviewed the toolkit.

As you’ve likely all heard, as of Sunday, June 12 those traveling to the U.S. no longer require a negative COVID test one day before their flight to the country. The CDC will reassess the decision in 90 days and may reinstate it if there is a new COVID variant of concern. View the CDC announcement here.
Shortly after that announcement, the Canadian government temporarily suspended random testing at all airports between June 11 and June 30, 2022. View the Government of Canada random testing announcement here.
In addition, as of June 20 at midnight ET, vaccination will no longer be required to board a plane or travel in Canada. This applies to travel within Canada and planes or trains leaving Canada. View Government of Canada vaccine mandate announcement here.

On June 19, join the street party to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and the 10th Anniversary of Skwachàys Lodge
Vancouver Native Housing Society and the Skwachàys Lodge and Gallery, and their Artisits-in-Residence Program, are hosting an outdoor celebration on Sunday, June 19.
The party takes place on Taylor Street, between West Pender and Keefer Place. It will be a family friendly event with food, entertainment, and children’s activities. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and run to 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Notice for Businesses that serve single-use cups in Vancouver:
The by-law changes require food vendors to accept customers’ reusable cups by July 1
On June 7, 2022, Vancouver City Council approved changes to the cup regulations in License By-law No. 4450 that require businesses to accept customers’ clean reusable cups for drinks ordered in-store starting July 1, 2022. These by-law changes were approved in principle on March 2.

The new by-law requirements for reusable cups have been developed with guidance from public health authorities. These changes help create a level playing field for businesses and allow customers to avoid the cup fee as well as reduce waste by choosing a reusable alternative.

Destination Vancouver looks forward to bringing back another incredible annual neighbourhood & shoreline clean-up party after a two year hiatus. This will be the 27th year since the program started in 1995 as “Keep Vancouver Spectacular” in partnership with the City of Vancouver. This is a great team building activity for you and your colleagues!

We are glad to see that the bi-weekly forecast helps to share our market intelligence with members and industry. Based on member input on the utility of this research publication, we will be moving to a weekly forecast starting this week. You will now be able to receive the latest forecast from our research & business insights via Member Enews each week.
For this week, from June 13 to June 19, there will be 14 cruise ships arriving at the Port of Vancouver. However, the total number of cruise passengers is expected to decrease compared to last week due to smaller total ship capacity. Four known meetings and conventions are also coming up this week along with one special event/show - Broadway Across Canada presents Hamilton; which continues until Jun 19. Total hotel and air bookings are down compared last week.

Learning opportunity:
The City of Vancouver has partnered with SFU’s Centre for Dialogue on an event about decolonizing the way we plan our shorelines and how Indigenous perspectives can be incorporated into public policy making. The event is called Decolonizing the Shoreline will be hosted online on June 22 at 12-1:15 pm.
