From May 22 to 28, 14 cruise ships are arriving with over 39,000 passengers. There are four meetings on the books in addition to two more trade shows being held at the Vancouver Convention Centre including: Vancouver Tattoo and Culture Show (May 26-29) and Planted Expo (May 27-28). We are seeing a great increase in both hotel bookings and air arrivals to Vancouver next week compared to the current week.

Funding to Revitalize Vancouver Chinatown
On May 12th 2023, the Province of BC announced the revitalization of Vancouver Chinatown is being supported with $2.2 million to create a more vibrant neighbourhood for residents, visitors and businesses.
The funding will be provided to the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation for the restoration of storefronts and historic neon signs, and lighting upgrades for Chinatown businesses, as well as infrastructure upgrades to the Chinese Cultural Centre.

The Vancouver Economic Commission seeking DIAL Focus Group Participants
In partnership with the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC), The Digital Innovation and Leadership (DIAL) initiative, founded by SFU Beedie School of Business, is inviting member businesses to participate in industry-specific focus groups to understand the challenges and concerns faced by SME’s as well as their position and participation in digital transformation. They are specifically interested in SMEs in Retail, Transportation and Professional Services sectors. A tourism-specific Focus Group is planned for later this summer.

Alley-Oop Street Party presented by the Binners Project
Taking place in the Pink Alley-Oop connecting Granville and Seymour just south of Hastings.
On June 17th, come to this fun event to raise awareness of the work the social enterprise Binners Project does to create:
- Income generation income opportunities for binners through our waste sorting services and by increasing binners' access to bottles and cans.
- Foster relationships between binners and the wider community by increasing the visilibty of binners and de-stigmatizing their work.
- Waste Sorting: social enterprise programs provide waste sorting services to buildings and events that utilize binners' unique knowledge as waste systems experts.

West End Waterfront Design Consultation
The Vancouver Park Board and the City of Vancouver are inviting you to provide ideas and feedback on three preliminary design approaches for the West End waterfront area, commonly known as English Bay, Sunset Beach Park, Morton Park, Alexandra Park, and Beach Avenue.
Your feedback in this phase will help to shape a preferred design concept and long-term plan for the West End waterfront. This design concept will be shared for your feedback in the fall of 2023.

Australia Snow Travel Expos
May 21 & 28 | Melbourne & Brisbane
Destination Vancouver will be exhibiting in the Canadian Pavilion at Australia’s largest snow show in Melbourne and Sydney. This event provides an opportunity to connect directly with Australian consumers planning ski holidays to Canada and increase awareness for Vancouver as a winter destination. Megan Nelson will be leading this initiative on behalf of Destination Vancouver.

Our Travel Trade team will be hosting two Vancouver Specialist training events in Australia that will focus on the distinct seasons of Vancouver and the vibrant culinary scene. Megan Nelson will be leading this initiative on behalf of Destination Vancouver.
