COVID-19 UPDATE & GOVERNMENT RESPONSE
|
Earlier this week, the Government of Canada announced the public health framework cruise ships much adhere to for restart in Canada and Canadian waters. This comprehensive plan includes:
- Crew and passengers being required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19;
- Crew and passengers being required to self-monitor for symptoms;
- Passengers being required to take a COVID-19 molecular test within 72-hours before boarding a cruise ship OR take an antigen test within one day of boarding a cruise ship; and
- Passengers being required to take a COVID-19 molecular test within 72-hours before arriving in Canada or taking an antigen test within one day of the scheduled arrival.

ADVOCACY REQUEST

Today, the Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses launched a new grassroots campaign in advance of the 2022 Federal Budget (read the press release here) Their campaign is centred around three things: removing barriers at the border, financial supports to bridge our industry until we can stabilize, and a dedicated labour strategy.
The Coalition needs your help to amplify their message to government. You can help by scheduling a meeting with your MP, sending a pre-written letter or amplifying on social media.

Suzanne Walters, Director, Corporate Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
Suzanne brings a professional background in a wide range of public and private sector industries with experience in strategic communications planning, government and media relations, and issues management. She has worked with local, national, and international media, and led communications for major events including international media relations for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, and secondments with the Beijing 2008 Summer Games, and London 2012. Suzanne most recently held a senior role with Boldt Communications leading communications and engagement strategies for a variety clients in industries including education, tech, healthcare, financial and community services. Suzanne is an active volunteer in the local community. As a proud Vancouverite, she is excited to be joining the Destination Vancouver Team to contribute to the rebuild of the tourism industry, deliver on our expanded mandate, and elevate the global presence of the place she loves.

VancouverTourism Awards Return for 2022
The Vancouver Tourism Awards are back for 2022! You can contribute to the personal success and recognition of your team members, by encouraging your guests to nominate front line service providers.
Nomination is easy. Ballots are available throughout the city, in hotels or online . You are also encouraged to share direct guest accolades by using the online form or by submitting any and all letters of recognition received.

CLIA Welcomes the Planned Restart of Cruise in Canada
The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) in Canada welcomes the announcement today by the Honourable Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, confirming the return of cruise to Canadian waters the first week of April 2022. The first cruise ship since 2019 is scheduled to call in Victoria, British Columbia on April 6 before transiting to Vancouver, British Columbia. With today’s announcement, cruise lines are preparing for a full schedule of sailings this year from April to November, with itineraries that will include ports and destinations on both Canadian coasts.

New Spring Campaign – Submit Your Special Offers
As we head into peak season with the return of travel and cruise, we want you to be involved in Destination Vancouver's new campaign!
The spring campaign launching in April will promote Vancouver to BC, Alberta, and Ontario audiences, as well as Washington State.
We invite our attraction, event, sport, hotel, culinary, wellness, and arts & culture members to share new or updated special offers for this promotion, by emailing our Marketing Specialist. These could be offers such as discounts, value-add, third night free, or any offer that encourages a sense of urgency (such as inclusive of event tickets), greater spend (through incentivized activity consumption), or longer stay (through rewards or savings). Full-day and multi-day touring and sightseeing product is also encouraged, particularly for experiences which are themed around wellness, culinary, arts and culture and anything quintessential Vancouver.
When submitting a new or updated offer, please provide:
- Offer name
- One-sentence offer description
- Photo
- URL
- Offer expiration date (if applicable)
If you have spring-themed product or experiences, please send that information as well. More to come on specific campaign concepts and themes. Please also ensure your member listings are up-to-date, including the COVID-19 Amenity updates (via the Member Extranet).
