Welcome to the Team!
We are very pleased to announce that Matt Taylor has joined Destination Vancouver as Manager of Visitor Services! Prior to joining Destination Vancouver, he led Rocky Mountaineer's guest care programs.
Matt is originally from Tasmania, Australia, where he led and managed the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre and oversaw a team of 40 staff and 100 volunteers. He describes himself as “an ‘outside the box’ type of thinker, an experienced manager of all things guest focused. From running a complex day to day operation to presenting key findings from an end-to-end customer journey mapping analysis, he is a capable leader, educator, and doer.

Destination Vancouver Welcomes BCIT Student Interns
Destination Vancouver is committed to supporting future leaders in our industry and is delighted to be hosting four Tourism Management students from BCIT for their Internships. The students are in their final term of study and BCIT’s Tourism Program provides students with exposure to professional work environments. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to provide the students with hands-on experience. Industry support of work experience programs are an important part of creating the next generation of tourism professionals. The internships run from March 28 to May 20, 2022. We enthusiastically welcome Geoffrey, Neil, Sehaj and Stella!

Destination Vancouver and Capilano University Launches Unique Event Legacy Research Study
A new partnership between Destination Vancouver and Capilano University marks the launch of a unique course of research designed to quantify the tangible and intangible impacts, benefits and legacies associated with Vancouver’s role as host city for international conferences, congresses and events.
Partnership between industry and university research team will create a framework of best event legacy best practices, designed to increase overall sustainability of global tourism sector through societal impacts from the events industry.
Research findings will be shared with members of the BestCities Global Alliance – a collection of 11 destinations that are noted to be among the best in the world, in terms of attracting events such as international congresses and sharing industry knowledge. Vancouver is a founding member of the BestCities Global Alliance. The city will host the BestCities Global Forum in December 2022, where an update on the research will be shared with member cities.

New Spring Campaign – Submit Your Special Offers
As we head into peak season with the return of travel and cruise, we want you to be involved in Destination Vancouver's new campaign.
Our spring campaign, launching in April, will promote Vancouver to BC, Alberta, and Ontario audiences, as well as to Washington State.
We invite our attraction, event, sport, hotel, culinary, wellness, and arts & culture members to share new or updated special offers for this promotion, by emailing our Marketing Agency. These could include offers such as discounts, value-add, third night free, or any offer that encourages a sense of urgency (such as inclusive of event tickets), greater spend (through incentive activity consumption), or longer stay (through rewards or savings). Full-day and multi-day touring and sightseeing product is also encouraged, particularly for experiences that are themed around wellness, culinary, arts and culture, and anything quintessential Vancouver.
When submitting a new or updated offer, please provide:

- Offer expiration date (if applicable)

St. John Ambulance making progress within lifesaving AED program
First aid charity St. John Ambulance BC & Yukon is continuing to grow their impact in the space of empowering public safety with their Start Me Up BC program. The program, which launched in early 2021, aims to install 1000 publicly accessible automated external defibrillator (AED) stands across the province to help people like you save lives from sudden cardiac arrest.
Since launching, St. John Ambulance has placed 14 stands. Areas of the stands include transit stations, parks, workplaces, community centres, and more. Each stand comes with an AED, a first aid kit, and a naloxone kit.

NEW TRAINING PROGRAM: Safer Spaces: Creating Sexual Harassment Free Workplaces in BC’s Tourism and Hospitality Industry
Go2HR has announced the launch of their first online training course, as part of their Safer Spaces initiative. Their aim is to raise awareness about and help prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. The online training course is now live and open for registration.
Safer Spaces: Creating Sexual Harassment Free Workplaces in BC’s Tourism and Hospitality Industry is a free online course that supports employers and supervisors in creating workplaces that are free from sexual harassment.
